Fish in salty or fresh water

Deep sea fishing, coastal fishing, fishing in running water or fishing in a lake? In the South Bohuslän you have all of these options! Here you’ll find some of Sweden’s best waters for deep sea fishing. There are many different species and the chances of catching big fishes are good.

DEEP SEA FISHING

Here you’ll find some of Sweden’s best waters for deep sea fishing. There are many different species and the chances of catching big fishes are good. Fish from your own boat or call a skipper of a touring boat and book a space.
Species: cod, pollack, saithe, mackerel, catfish, ling, piked dogfish, ray, flatfish and whiting.
Season: Spring – catfish and cod. Summer – mackerel, saithe, whiting and cod. Autumn – mackerel and piked dogfish. Late autumn and winter – large cod.

Fishing methods:
1. Pater Noster tackle – sinker and a couple of hooks baited with mussel, herring, squid or mackerel. This is the best method for catfish, flatfishes, ling, piked dogfish and ray, i.e. all fishes that live on the seabed
2. Jig tackle – A jig at the bottom and a couple of hooks above the jig. This is the best method for cod and pelagic species like mackerel, saithe, pollack and whiting.

COASTAL FISHING

Fishing in the sea is free. However, there are some protected areas outside brooks, where rod fishing is allowed only during the period 1 April - 30 September. The Best Coast archipelago is one of the best sea trout waters in Europe. Come in April or May when the spring evenings and mornings offer excellent fishing. During the summer months of July and August, fishing is most rewarding at night, and then preferably with fly. Other species are also available. Bottom fishing for flatfish and cod is at times very good. There are also unusual species like mullet and perch. The mullet is caught by angling or with fly. The perch is caught by spin troll.

1. Species: Sea trout and garpike.
Fishing method: Normal spinning at a depth of 1/2-4 metres where there are 'spotted' sea beds, i.e. sandy with scattered tufts of seaweed. Fast and jerky when reeling in. Suitable baits are small spoon lures. The trout can also be caught with fly. The garpike fishing is best in the spring, May is the top month.
Sites: Southern Stenungsön, the northern side of the Krosse Fjord, the north of Askeröarna, Galtarön, Dagholmarna, Boxvikskile, Stocken, Malö Strömmar, Slussen, Böe Kile and Säby Kile.

2. Species: Cod, saithe, pollack, mackerel, whiting and various types of flatfish. Some less common species can also be found: catfish, haddock, Atlantic horse mackerel, piked dogfish, ballan wrasse, eel and grey mullet.
Fishing method: Bottom fishing with mussel, herring, shrimp or lugworm. Ordinary spin fishing.
Sites: The abutments of the Tjörn bridge, Lyrön, Björholmen and Härön.

RUNNING WATER

Anråse River
The Anråse River fishery has opened up some sections for recreational fishing, particularly fly fishing. This river offers very exciting trout and salmon fishing. The river is neither wide nor long, so you have to be a 'precision player' to get close to the fish. The river is also water sensitive. Visiting after a heavy rainfall will give the best returns.
Species: Species found in the river, apart from sea trout and salmon, are pike, perch, ide, roach etc.
Permit for the river mouth, max 4 at 150 SEK/day. Fishing permit: 50 SEK/day, 100 SEK/year. Permits are personal and sold at Björns Fiske -Jakt - Kläder, Stenungsund
