Day 1
Start in Stenungsund. You stay at Hotel Reis. They will show you to the long stay car park. Depending on when you arrive you will be offered a tour around Stenungsund, about 30 kilometres. The journey starts north towards Hällungen, where you can stop for a swim. Then you continue through forests and fields, past a little history in the shape of a stone circle from the Iron Age. After 5 kilometres along the old E6 you’ll eventually get back to ’civilisation’ and the sea.

Stenungsund is an old trading town, situated by the narrow strait between the mainland and Stenungsön. Today it’s a modern growing industrial town with a large shopping centre, nice restaurants and coffee shops. There is a large cultural offering in the shape of Kulturhuset Fregatten (The Culture House Fregatten), which also houses the Tourist Information. In the evening it’s back to Hotel Reis, where you spend the first night.

Day 2
After breakfast, stage1 begins (30 kilometres). You make your way to Tjörn via the Tjörn bridges that connect the island to the mainland. From the Tjörn Bridge rest area you have a wonderful view over the Hake and Askerö fjords. The journey then goes west, towards Skärhamn. If you like, you can take a detour to Rönnäng, walk up to Tjörne Huvud where you can see for miles across the water, or catch a ferry to Åstol and Dyrön. Just before Skärhamn centre, turn downhill and take a look at the small fishing village, Stockevik. Continue down to the southern harbour where you will find a Tourist Information and the Nordic Watercolour Museum. If your tummy is rumbling, there are several restaurants, with fish and shellfish on the menu, to choose from.

Tjörn is Sweden’s sixth largest island with a population of around 15,000. The island has rocks in the west and fertile valleys in the middle. Fishing, agriculture and shipping are traditionally important industries.
The second overnight stay is at Hotel Nordevik in Skärhamn.

Day 3
After breakfast it’s the start of stage 2 (45 kilometres). On the way north, you’ll pass Säby; take a walk out to Säby Island. At the very end is a little stone cottage, which has been preserved from a time when Säby Island was a fishing village. The road to Orust runs along the northern part of Tjörn, past Bräcke village hall and Sundsby Manor. The manor is situated on Mjörn. This is where Margareta Hvitfeldt (1608-83) lived, one of Bohuslän’s most remarkable women. The Matron of Sundsby was the biggest landowner in Bohuslän. Mjörn’s highest point, Solklinten, has one of the most magnificent views on the west coast.

On the way to Orust you will pass the Skåpesund Bridge, which connects Tjörn to Orust. NB! The next 4 kilometres to Varekil are along the busy road 160. Turn left in Varekil and follow the signs for ‘Cykelspåret’. Orust also offers plenty of nature and cultural heritage, as well as many churches. Up near Ellös you can visit Huseby Klev museum, which shows finds from the Stone Age.

On Orust you always feel the closeness to the salty sea. But inside the strip of coastland, are valleys with fertile farmland, separated by forests and steep mountains. Agriculture, fishing, boat building and shipping are the main industries that have shaped the Orust of today.
The last night is spent at Hotel Sjögården in Ellös. Double room.

Day 4
After breakfast you set off on the third and final stage, stage 3 (51 kilometres). From Ellös to Henån, Orust’s main town. You pass Morlanda church and Morlanda Manor. When you reach Torebo you’ll find the Bildtska museum of local history. Lunch in Henån. Cycle across the island and continue towards Slussen. Your journey then continues along the eastern side of the island. Take a break by Stillingsön and look at the old seaside resort. Carry on towards Svanesund from where the ferry will take you back to the mainland. On the way to Stenungsund you will pass Jordhammar’s Gästgiveri and the craft society. Once in Stenungsund you can visit the bathing place Hawaii with sandy beach, smooth rocks and barbeque area.
